Parking charges to start at Wepre Park from Monday
Parking charges will be introduced at Wepre Park in Connah’s Quay from Monday 27 July.
The charges will be £1 for up to two hours, £2 for up to four hours and £4 for a full day, applying seven days a week from 9am to 9pm, including Bank Holidays.
Annual permits are available for £50, with applications by email to [email protected] or through the Flintshire County Council website.
The council says income from the charges will support maintenance of the car park, help keep spaces available for park users and discourage long-stay parking.
It says visitor and vehicle numbers at the park have increased in recent years, putting additional pressure on the site and its facilities.
New traffic management measures have already been put in place on nearby streets ahead of the changes, which the council says will address concerns about displacement parking.
Councillor Glyn Banks, Cabinet Member for Waste and Transportation, said: “Wepre Park is one of Flintshire’s most valued green spaces and an important asset for residents and visitors.
“The introduction of parking charges is a necessary step to help us better manage the increased vehicle numbers and ensure the car park can continue to be maintained to a high standard.
“We’ve been mindful to keep the charges low, with tariffs starting from just £1, so the park remains affordable and accessible to all those who enjoy it.”
The 160-acre park, which includes woodland, open green space and the ruins of Ewloe Castle, is cared for by the council’s Access and Natural Environment Service.
Its overflow car park was upgraded in 2021 through Welsh Government Recovery Grant funding.
The photograph above was taken last week and shows the sign displaying a charge of £2.50 for up to four hours.
Flintshire County Council has confirmed the sign has since been changed to £2 for up to four hours.
