Boccard UK’s Deeside site to build tanks for £5bn Sizewell C project

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Sizewell C has awarded a contract to Boccard UK to manufacture stainless steel tanks at its Deeside facility.

The company said the contract covers the fabrication and pre-assembly of high-integrity tanks, which will be built into reinforced concrete structures across Sizewell C’s Nuclear Island.

Boccard UK operates two sites in Deeside, a 100,000 sq ft facility on Deeside Industrial Park and a facility at Airbus Broughton, where the firm already manufactures nuclear components for Hinkley Point C.

Sizewell C’s announcement did not specify which site will produce the new tanks.

The programme is expected to run for four years and will draw on more than 200 specialists, according to the companies.

Nigel Cann, chief executive of Sizewell C, said:

“Sizewell C is essential for our energy future, and this contract is another great example of how we’re delivering it with the best value for the UK. Boccard UK will be manufacturing our tanks in North Wales, supporting vital jobs and opportunities in the Deeside region.”

“Over a thousand UK suppliers already benefit from work on the Sizewell C project, with contracts delivering value right across the country. We’re continuing to invest in the growth of UK businesses and in the future of the UK’s skilled construction workforce.”

Douglas McQueen, chief executive of Boccard UK, said:

“Winning this contract represents a major milestone for Boccard UK and reflects our strong track record in delivering high-specification nuclear systems. We look forward to working collaboratively with project partners to deliver safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.”

Additional technical and engineering support for the programme will come from Boccard’s teams in Roanne, France, the company said.

Sizewell C said it had invested just under £5 billion with more than 1,000 UK suppliers to date, according to its second Annual Sustainability Report, published this month.
