Three Merseyside men charged over North Wales car thefts

Detectives have charged three men in connection with a series of keyless motor vehicle thefts spanning North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire, and Lancashire.
The arrests follow a lengthy investigation into the crimes, which occurred between April and October 2022.
The three individuals charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles are Sean Fagan, 31, Daniel Johnston, 37 and Curtis Morrison, 30, all from the Walton area of Merseyside.
All three men have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court today, today, Friday 17 January.
Detective Sergeant George Easterbrook of Merseyside Police emphasised the force’s commitment to reducing car thefts, describing them as a significant problem for victims.
“We take all reports of car thefts extremely seriously and are committed to reducing the number of offences in Merseyside,” he said. “We understand the impact it can have on the victim, which is likely to be one of the most expensive items a person owns. It’s an upsetting experience and can cause huge inconvenience to the victim.”
In light of the investigation, police have released practical tips to help residents safeguard their vehicles:
- Activate all available security features when locking your car.
- Avoid leaving car keys visible near windows, back doors, or letterboxes.
- Use wheel locks and hide the lock nut in an inconspicuous place, or carry it with you.
- Park in well-lit areas or Park Mark-approved car parks where possible.
- Never leave your engine running while unattended, especially on a public road.
- Avoid leaving valuables or personal items in plain sight inside the car.
- Discreetly load items into the boot before arriving at your destination to avoid attracting attention.
- Remove portable Sat Nav systems and their leads when leaving the vehicle unattended.
