The Highway in Ewloe to close for four days next week as roundabout roadworks scheme

The B5125 The Highway in Ewloe will close for four days from next Tuesday as the active travel scheme around St David’s Roundabout continues.
The road will be closed from 9.30am on Tuesday 26 May until 6pm on Friday 29 May.
The closure covers the section running from St David’s Roundabout to Carlines Avenue.
The new closure was announced as two ward councillors have publicly criticised the scheme in recent days.
Cllr Helen Brown, who represents Hawarden: Aston for Reform UK, said on Monday a car had got stuck at the roundabout after a row of cones was placed across the road in the direction it was travelling.
She said cars were backing up at the site and pedestrians trying to access a business were not sure how to walk there.
Cllr Brown said signage at the site had caused even more problems over the weekend.
She said: “I will keep monitoring the situation over the days, weeks and months.”
Cllr Brown has previously called the works “absolute mayhem” and said the scheme was “running over now by 6 weeks and that’s subject to change”.
Cllr Linda Thomas, the Labour ward councillor for Hawarden: Ewloe, said last Thursday that the situation was “unacceptable” and that she would “take it up 1st thing on Monday”.
Cllr Brown held a site meeting at the roundabout on Monday with Cllr Glyn Banks, Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene.
She said she now hoped to see a vast improvement from Monday, and that further discussions with the council were due this week.
Flintshire County Council confirmed last Thursday that completion of the wider works had slipped to mid-July, citing on-site engineering difficulties.
In its statement, the council thanked the public for their continued patience and cooperation.
Cllr Brown said in a Facebook reply: “It’s Streetscene thanking people for patience, not me, my patience has also gone.”
The wider scheme runs alongside a separate Welsh Government active travel scheme.
The county council scheme, worth £900,000, is redesigning St David’s Roundabout to a Dutch-style layout, where vehicles will give way to pedestrians and cyclists at parallel crossings.
The Welsh Government scheme is installing new pedestrian crossings on the A494 Ewloe slip roads and widening footways under the A494.
Both schemes began at the end of January and were originally due to be complete by mid-May.
Both were designed with the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent and are being delivered by Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time, follow signed diversion routes and check journeys before setting off.
Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the closure.
