Taxis found in dangerous condition during Chester checks
Two taxi licences have been suspended after vehicles were found to be in a dangerous condition during a licensing operation in Chester at the weekend.
Cheshire Police worked alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council on the operation, which saw 12 taxis stopped and checked at the roadside.
One Traffic Offence Report was issued. A number of drivers were also warned about the tread depth of their tyres.
The minimum legal tread depth for car tyres in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre. Driving with tyres below that limit carries a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre.
A police spokesperson said:
“We’re working hard to ensure residents and visitors are safe and taxis operating in the area are correctly licenced.”
Licensing enforcement is carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council, which issues hackney carriage and private hire licences for the borough. Suspended licences can be reinstated once a vehicle passes a further inspection.
