Deestriders member completes 64-mile Beacons Way ultra

Deestriders RC runner Paul Lewtey won the Rhes y Cae 10k on Saturday in 40:06.
Christine Cammillare was second lady at the Flintshire race in 48:19, with Guy Christall finishing in 56:21.
On the same day, clubmate Nige Parr completed the GB Ultras Beacons Way Ultra, covering 64 miles and 12,858 feet of climbing. He finished in 18 hours and 18 minutes.
Conditions turned overnight, with a warm day giving way to rain and poor visibility. Close to one in five of the runners who started the race did not finish it.
Five Deestriders ran the Race the Highland Train 5k at Caernarfon on 22 July. David Temple led the club home in 20:48, followed by Andy Wainwright in 22:48 and Fred Aird in 24:43.
Amanda Scotter set a personal best of 24:46 and Clare Harper also set a personal best, finishing in 26:31.
Chris Preston ran a personal best of 31:44 over five miles at Birkenhead.
Deestriders RC meets on Tuesday nights at Ash Grove Car Park, Shotton, at 6.15pm for the developers group working from 5k up to 10k, and 6.30pm for the road groups covering five to seven miles. Wednesday nights are fell and trail runs from varying locations at 6.15pm, and Thursday sessions are at Deeside Athletic Stadium at 7pm.
Membership is £30 a year with a free trial period. The club competes in the Borders League, the North Wales Cross Country League, the Summer Multi Terrain Series and local fell races. New members can contact the club at [email protected].
