Flintshire is expected to see heavy rain and potential flooding as Storm Claudia moves across Wales and western England from Friday into early Saturday, the Met Office has warned.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place, with the potential for disruption to homes, roads, and public transport.

The Met Office said rain will become prolonged and heavy throughout Friday before easing into Saturday morning, accompanied by strong easterly winds.

Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 millimetres are expected widely, with 60 to 80 millimetres possible in some areas and more than 100 millimetres on east-facing hills in southeast Wales.

Following a period of recent wet weather, the ground is already saturated, increasing the risk of both surface water and river flooding.

The warning states that some communities could be cut off by flooded roads, while homes and businesses may be damaged by floodwater.

Fast-flowing or deep water could pose a danger to life. Travel disruption is likely, with difficult driving conditions, road closures, and possible delays or cancellations to bus and train services.

Power cuts and loss of other services are also possible in affected areas.

The Met Office advises residents to check whether their properties are at risk of flooding and to prepare a flood plan and emergency kit. Travellers are urged to check road conditions and public transport updates before setting out.

People are also encouraged to prepare for potential power cuts by gathering torches, spare batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.

Storm Claudia was named by the Spanish Meteorological Service.

The Met Office said the likelihood of impacts has increased as the storm moves north through Thursday night and Friday.

Separate amber warnings have been issued in parts of Wales where higher rainfall totals are expected.

Residents are advised to monitor Met Office updates and local information as warnings may change at short notice.
