If you drive the route regularly between Chester and Deeside you may have noticed new 50 mph signs being installed along the A548 Sealand Road.

The speed limit, after years of campaigning and some terrible tragedies will now reduce from the current 60mph national speed limit to 50mph.

A Permanent traffic order was signed off by both Flintshire and Cheshire West & Cheshire Councils last July to lower the speed limit along the road.

Despite the obvious signs going up, which are currently covered over, there has been little communication from authorities about the imminent change however,

Flintshire county councillor for Sealand Christine Jones who has campaigned for the reduction said:

“I welcome the reduction in the speed limit as it was something that I fought for, following fatal accidents along this road. It has taken time as we had to get agreement of WG and Chester West and Chester Council. I support any speed reductions that could help potentially save lives.”

Friday will see the speed limit reduced from 60mph to 50mph starting from a point 150m east of its junction with Manor Road, where the current first set of national speed limits signs are currently located heading towards Chester, the speed limit reduction extends over the Flintshire, Cheshire boundary line past the speed camera located on the junction of Western Avenue, to the point the speed limit reduces to 30mph just before the Lookers Vauxhall dealership.

Along with the speed reduction on Sealand Road, Seahill Road and Old Sealand Road will also see reductions to speed limits.

Old Sealand Road will see a reduction in two places while Seahill Road will drop to 40mph from the border with Cheshire (see map)

A Spokesperson for Flintshire County Council said,
