Shotton Community Hub to host open day ahead of £2m redevelopment
The Rivertown United Reformed Church (URC) Community Hub in Shotton has announced an ambitious £2 million redevelopment project for its church premises, aimed at enhancing its role as a vital resource for the local community.
As part of the redevelopment plan, the Hub will temporarily relocate to the former Venerable Edward Morgan Primary School, situated behind King George Street and currently owned by Flintshire County Council.
The temporary move will enable redevelopment work at the church to proceed without disruption to the Hub’s daily activities and programmes.
While providing a convenient base to continue operations, the school site will also serve as a platform to raise awareness of the project and promote the Hub’s expanded vision.
On 8th November, the community is invited to an open day at Rivertown URC, welcoming both current residents and former pupils of the old school.
The day is set to feature discussions, information displays, and entertainment.
Organisers hope the event will reconnect the community with the school’s past significance and give a preview of how the building will support the Hub’s offerings during the church’s transformation.
“Hosting the Hub at the school site will allow us to keep providing key services and, importantly, share our vision for a modern, accessible community space for everyone in the area,” explained a Rivertown URC spokesperson.
“We hope to engage with as many residents as possible on the 8th and hear their thoughts on the services they want to see here.”
The event will include refreshments, children’s activities, displays on the school’s history and the planned redevelopment, as well as musical performances by students from Ysgol Croes Atti.
Local groups and organisations affiliated with the Hub will also be present to showcase their work, reflecting the varied activities and services that will benefit from the updated facilities once the project is complete.
In addition to celebrating the Hub’s history and its role in the Shotton community, the open day will serve as an opportunity for residents to share feedback on the types of services they’d like to see offered by the Hub. This input will be essential in ensuring the newly developed facility meets the needs of the community it serves.
Once complete, the redeveloped Rivertown URC building will be designed to offer a multipurpose, accessible environment, ideally situated to provide a welcoming and functional space for future activities and gatherings.
The Hub’s organisers are enthusiastic about the vision, which will offer an upgraded, centralised location for the programmes, resources, and services that have come to define Rivertown URC’s role in the community.
The Hub’s team encourages all interested community members to attend the open day, where they can learn more about the project, connect with fellow residents, and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, nostalgia, and planning for the future of Shotton’s community space.
