Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy from Saughall following a fail to stop collision outside Mill View Primary School in Chester.

At around 3.20pm on Tuesday 22 July, a 5-year-old boy crossing Wealstone Lane with his father was struck by a blue electric bike.

The rider and passenger on the bike failed to stop and fled towards Plas Newton Lane.

The boy was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital with serious injuries and is now in a stable condition.

The teenager presented himself at Blacon Police Station and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

Police continue to seek the passenger from the bike, believed to have been wearing a grey hooded top at the time.

Detective Sergeant Russ Sime said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the local community for all the support and information provided so far in relation to this incident.

“This is an extremely emotive case, and I’d like to reassure residents that the victim is now on the mend and expected to make a full recovery.

“As our investigation continues, we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any video footage that may aid the investigation.

“The same goes for anyone who believes that they know the identity of the passenger from the bike.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML 2138673, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
