Met Office forecasts prolonged spell of above-average temperatures from this weekend

Temperatures in the high 20s are on the way for parts of the UK from this weekend, the Met Office has forecast.
The warm spell is expected to last well into the following week, with values of 27 to 29C quite likely in some locations and the potential for higher than that.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: “From this weekend the UK forecast will have a distinctly warmer and drier component with a prolonged spell of above-average temperatures, with values in some locations quite likely to reach 27 to 29C, with the potential for higher values than this.”
The warm weather follows a cold and unsettled week.
Showers will dominate for most of this week, some of them heavy with a chance of hail and thunder.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen said: “Temperatures across the UK will remain below average for most of this week and it’ll often feel rather chilly, but in the sunny spells between showers, the strength of the June sunshine will provide a short-term boost making conditions feel pleasant in sheltered areas.”
The Met Office published the forecast on Monday 8 June 2026.
