Person dies after being hit by train near Shotton station

A person has died after being hit by a train at Shotton railway station on Monday morning, British Transport Police have confirmed.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Shotton railway station at 11.08am today (June 8) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Trains between Chester and Llandudno Junction are cancelled in both directions as a result, with disruption expected until later this afternoon.

Services may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Avanti West Coast trains between Holyhead and London Euston are also affected.

Rail replacement coaches are running between Chester and Holyhead are in operation.
