Officers from South Flintshire Police team have issued a warning today about a distraction theft method which they say is currently being used locally.

The warning following an incident where a white male in his 50’s approached a female shopper in Broughton while she was close to her parked car.

The man reportedly pointed out that there was foam coming from her car, he went on to distract the woman at the front of her vehicle

Police said the man’s accomplice “has clearly entered the boot of the vehicle and stolen the female’s bank card.”

A short time later, £1000 was taken from the woman’s bank account at a nearby ATM.

A police spokesperson said: “It is very clear that the male has observed the female using her bank card to make payment instore in order to obtain her PIN.”

Officers are urging shoppers to shield PIN numbers when making purchases using cards.

“Should someone approach you in this manner, do not engage with them, and make contact with police.”
