Police appeal following arson attack on Holywell barn which has killed 5 calves

Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service have launched a joint investigation after a suspected arson attack on a barn in Holywell killed a number of animals.

Officers say they were alerted to the incident on the Moor Holywell at just after 2.20am on February 1, a police helicopter was dispatched to the area to help search for suspects.

Appliances from St. Asaph, Deeside, Flint, and Holywell were called to the fire which involved livestock, hay and fertilizer, sadly five calves are known to have died as a result of the blaze.

Two appliances remain in attendance damping down the fire.

Sgt Alison Sharp said; “This has been a devastating fire in which animals have been killed and which will have an impact on the livelihood of the farmer.

“We are treating this incident as arson and I would appeal to anyone who has information to contact police on 101 quoting reference W012414.
