Plans for multi-use sports site next to Hawarden Cricket Club submitted

An outline planning application has been submitted to develop a multi-use community sports facility on land next to Hawarden Cricket Club.
The proposal, led by Hawarden Park Girls and Ladies FC, seeks permission to convert a 2.9-hectare agricultural field off Moor Lane into a facility featuring a full-size football pitch and a second cricket field.
According to planning documents, the site would also include parking for over 50 vehicles, with future plans for changing rooms, a small spectator stand and floodlights.
The site lies directly south of the existing cricket ground.
Its northern boundary adjoins the area housing practice nets, while the western edge aligns with Moor Lane.
The eastern and southern boundaries adjoin other agricultural fields.
The application, submitted on 2 June 2025, is currently open for public comment.
The final date for third-party submissions is 1 July 2025.
The planning application notes that no buildings will be constructed as part of the initial works, which would focus on preparing and draining the field for sports use.
It states: “The field is currently agricultural land and is ideally sited to develop a multi-use community sports facility to host a female football club and provide a second cricket field to the current cricket club.”
The application indicates that additional facilities, including changing rooms and a 100-seat stand, would be considered once the pitches are established and further development is viable.
No issues regarding contamination, flood risk or protected habitats have been identified on the site, which is not located within a flood risk area.
The target determination date for the application is 28 July 2025.
