Planning: Beer Lab’s next experiment could be turning empty Mold shop into a craft beer haven
An empty retail unit in Mold may soon be the site of a bustling micropub, according to a new planning application.
The proposal, now open for public comments, would see the unit within St David’s Building – located on Daniel Owen Centre – converted into a micropub selling craft beers and ales.
St David’s Building stands adjacent to the town’s main shopping centre holding a prominent position in the heart of Mold.
The planning application, registered on 30th June 2023, outlines the proposed change of use from a vacant A1 retail space to an A3 premises.
The application was submitted on behalf of The Beer Lab Ltd, which already owns a micropub in Heswall, Wirral.
The transformation of the vacant unit in Mold would see the creation of two full-time and four part-time positions, according to the planning application.

The planning application is currently in the consultation stage, involving local government representatives, environmental authorities, and neighbours of the site.
Mold Town Council and local representative, Councillor Carberry, have been consulted, ensuring that the voices and interests of local residents are reflected in the decision-making process.
Further, heritage body CADW has been consulted, suggesting careful consideration of any potential impacts on local historical sites or architecture.
Eighteen neighbours, presumably owner-occupiers of nearby properties, have been invited to consult, underlining the importance of community input in the decision-making process.
The final decision on the application will be made by the appointed planning officer following the end of the consultation process, which concludes on July 27.
