Penyffordd Scouts have unveiled a John Lewis style Christmas advert, blending festive cheer with a touching storyline to promote their annual Santa Float fundraiser.

The group, which has brought Santa to the communities of Penyffordd, Penymynydd, and Drury for over 35 years, relies on the float to spread joy and raise vital funds.

This year’s advert, inspired by the emotional appeal of high-street campaigns, tells the story of Scouts stepping up when Santa faces a crisis.

The ad begins with a group of Scouts uncovering a letter on Santa’s chair, revealing that an issue with the North Pole’s present-wrapping machine might prevent Santa from joining them this year.

Rallying together, the Scouts donate their own presents to the float, creating enough festive magic to bring Santa back to Penyffordd.

Steve Love, Group Lead Volunteer for Penyffordd Scouts, said:

“The Christmas float is such a huge part of the local community, and we love being able to bring festive cheer, and take Santa round to visit all of the children of Penyffordd, Penymynydd and Drury every year.

“It’s also become a recent tradition that we make our own adverts, to rival those of the big chains, and this year we wanted to try and go for something emotional and uplifting, to show just how amazing Scouts can be.”

The Santa Float has grown to become one of the group’s largest fundraisers, supporting nearly 100 children with skills and activities year-round. Steve added:

“The funds we raise are needed now more than ever to enable us to continue providing amazing activities and teaching skills for life.”

The Scouts’ Christmas advert has been met with praise from the community, drawing comparisons to iconic campaigns from brands like John Lewis.

The creative project reflects the group’s spirit of teamwork and their commitment to local traditions.

To support Penyffordd Scouts and help keep their festive activities alive, donations can be made via JustGiving.
