Reallocation of dog bin after seven month wait ‘unacceptable’ says Flintshire councillor

A new dog bin to combat an epidemic of dog fouling in Buckley took seven months to arrive then was redirected to replace a damaged bin before it could be installed.

Buckley Pentrobin Reform Councillor Mike Peers requested back in January for the bin to be installed on Drury New Road to tackle persistent dog fouling that had generated numerous complaints from residents.

“I contacted Flintshire County Council and they agreed to provide a bin,” said Cllr Peers.

“The local area co-ordinator coming out shortly after, in advance of the installation, to mark the agreed position.

“Despite many requests and many promises since, seven months later the dog bin has yet to be installed.

“I’ve chased this many times, and been advised  ‘it’s out of stock’, ‘it’s awaiting delivery’ and ‘we’re still waiting for it’.

“Two weeks ago, I was informed by the council that the dog bin that was ordered had been delivered – but had been taken to replace a damaged bin elsewhere.

“It’s unacceptable that they have taken a bin ordered for my residents in Buckley. If they needed replacements they should have ordered extras. I’m now unsure when it will be installed, it’s a poor show from the council.”

Flintshire County Council’s Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation Katie Wilby said that the situation was being resolved and the new bin would be in place soon.

“A replacement dog waste bin had been ordered for the requested location, but redirected to an existing site to replace a bin that had been damaged beyond repair.

“We prioritise replacing broken bins to maintain service continuity.

“Another bin has been secured and will be installed at the requested location as soon as possible.”
