Then & Now: Drone footage used in stunning new 3D reconstruction of 13th Century Ewloe Castle
A stunning new ‘then and now’ video using drone footage combined with the latest 3D digital software and techniques shows how Ewloe Castle would have looked around 700 years ago.
The video created by Martin Moss and posted on his DEXTRAVISUAL YouTube channel yesterday is his second Ewloe Castle video, the first created last year racked up an impressive 8215 views.
Since then Martin has recreated Flint, Degawny, Chester and Beeston Castles all with the same meticulous precision as the Ewloe Castle reconstruction .
Martin from Chester uses the latest graphics software and tools to digitally rebuild the castle to its former glory, in this version he has combined the computer generated graphics with the drone footage filmed by based Holywell specialists Rough Cuts
Martin’s video also shows how things may have looked inside when the castle were fully occupied.
Ewloe Castle.
Built around 1257, Ewloe castle is a relic of a brief triumph that Welsh prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd had over the English Crown in the mid 13th century.
A fortification had existed on or near the site since the Battle of Ewloe in 1157.
The castle, was one of the last fortifications to be built by the sovereign Princes of Wales, was abandoned at the beginning of the invasion of Wales by Edward I in 1277.
Locally quarried sandstone was used in the castles construction however, historians say the castle may never have actually been completed.
On taking the castle, the English Crown gave it little military value and allowed it to fall into ruin.
