A new stage adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre will run at Storyhouse in Chester from Tuesday 10 November to Saturday 21 November 2026.

Tickets go on sale to Storyhouse Members on Thursday 30 April, with general sale opening on Friday 1 May.

The production is a co-production between Storyhouse, the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, and the Rose Theatre in Kingston.

It is presented in association with Northern Stage and supported by a grant from the Royal Theatrical Support Trust.

The staging is based on the adaptation by Sally Cookson, Mike Akers and the original company.

It will be directed by Lily Dyble, who won the 2025 Royal Theatrical Support Trust Sir Peter Hall Director Award.

The award is designed to give an early-career director a first-time opportunity to lead a fully funded production at a leading regional UK theatre, with a tour to other similar venues.

Storyhouse sat on the panel for the 2025 awards.

Lily Dyble said:

“What I see at the heart of this story is courage in the face of the unknown. Jane Eyre reminds us of the risk and enormity of love, but also how uncertainty can breed hope as well as fear.”

“I’m thrilled to be bringing Jane’s story to audiences across England this autumn, with the support of four wonderful venues and the RTST.”

The production is part of the Storyhouse Originals strand of in-house productions.

Recent Storyhouse Originals shows include a new staging of Macbeth, which ran last month, alongside earlier productions of Miss Julie, Bluestockings, Antigone, Faustus: That Damned Woman, The Parent Agency and Kinky Boots.

The strand also covers Storyhouse’s annual Christmas productions and shows at the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre.

Storyhouse is one of the closest large-scale theatres for residents across Flintshire and the wider Deeside patch, with regular bus and rail links into Chester city centre.

Ticket prices and the full performance schedule are published on the Storyhouse website at www.storyhouse.com.
