A well known local writer has thrown his hat into the political ring today and announced he will be standing as an independent candidate for Alyn and Deeside parliamentary seat.

Phil Woods, who lives in the Golftyn area of Connah’s Quay, says he has one political aim that is “to make life better for the people of Deeside” and is asking everybody in Deeside to help him create a ‘peoples manifesto’

Phil says:

“I talk to many people in Deeside daily and they have become totally disillusioned with ‘out of touch politicians’ and the parties they represent.

I do not have a manifesto, and I don’t know what is going to make life better for everybody, I don’t claim to have the answers to everyone’s problem however, I will ask the people of Deeside what they want from their local politician in order to make life in Alyn & Deeside better for everyone.”

Phil continues:

My manifesto is currently a blank piece of paper and it obviously needs some policies, this is where the people of Deeside come in, i’m giving every single adult in Alyn & Deeside the opportunity to complete a simple questionnaire with one question on it – Describe the things that would make your life better.

Phil’s ambition isn’t just around winning the Alyn and Deeside parliamentary seat, he says:

“There is something much bigger at stake here, the people of Alyn & Deeside are about to show the rest of the UK what is wrong with politics today, we will become a shining example of true democracy in action. Decisions in the area will never again be taken without a thought for the people affected, i will take on the so-called big guns in politics, and fight the election with the peoples policies, not the policies of Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrats, UKIP, Plaid Cymru and anyone else who puts themselves forward as a candidate for the constituency.”
