New camel calf arrives at Greenacres Animal Park

Greenacres Animal Park in Mancot has announced the birth of a Bactrian camel calf.
The calf, born on 8 July, is developing well and is already showing a lively and curious personality.
A spokesperson for the park said: “We’re thrilled to announce the birth of a beautiful Bactrian camel calf here at Greenacres Animal Park.
“He was born on 8 July and has been developing amazingly.
“He is already full of character and beginning to show his cheeky personality.
“Proud mum Hettie is doing brilliantly and the little one is settling in well with the rest of the herd.
“Both his dad Sid and Gertie have been incredibly gentle and caring towards him, showing just how special this new arrival is to the group.”

Bactrian camels, known for their two humps, act as ambassador animals for their wild relatives, the wild Bactrian camels.
The wild species is critically endangered, with fewer than 1,000 individuals left in the wild.
“The two-humped wild Bactrian camel is a separate species to the domestic Bactrian camel and, unfortunately, is critically endangered, with fewer than 1,000 left in the wild.
“We are proud to have a baby born that can help contribute towards vital education and raise awareness for this important species, making this arrival that extra bit special,” the spokesperson added.
The park encourages visitors and locals to learn more about wild camels and ways to support their conservation through organisations such as the Wild Camel Protection Foundation.
