Man wanted on suspicion of attempted murder stopped by armed police in Queensferry

Traffic was brought to a standstill in Queensferry this afternoon as armed police surrounded a silver coloured Mini just after 3.30pm.

Firearms teams stopped the car close to the junction of Chester Road and Asda supermarket, the operation which also involved unmarked police vehicles was carried out on behalf of Staffordshire Police who were seeking a 48-year-old male wanted on suspicion of attempted murder.

All surrounding roads were closed as police carried out the operation to apprehend the man.

Eyewitnesses describe seeing up to 10 police officers surround the car with the single occupant with more officers close by.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said;

A car has been stopped in North Wales in connection with a domestic-related incident in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this afternoon (Jan 30).

Colleagues from North Wales Police have stopped a car at a supermarket car park in Queensferry. We want to speak to the driver in connection with the incident.

A woman has been taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance with multiple knife wounds following an incident at Foley Road, Longton.’

In an update on Twitter Staffordshire Police went on to say:

‘We’ve arrested a 48-year-old man for attempted murder in connection with an incident earlier this afternoon in Stoke-on-Trent. Following the incident, colleagues from North Wales Police stopped a car at a supermarket in Queensferry, Flintshire, and a man from Longton was detained’

“He was arrested in Wales at around 5.20pm. This followed an incident which occurred just after 2pm in Foley Road, Longton. A woman was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance with multiple knife wounds.”

Roads reopened around 6pm.
