Police investigating a bomb hoax that caused widespread disruption in Chester City Centre have arrested a 28-year-old man from Ellesmere Port.

The man was detained in Chester today, Tuesday, 26 November, and remains in custody, assisting police with their enquiries.

The arrest comes after reports of suspicious activity on two buses in the city centre on Friday, 22 November.

Police were alerted at approximately 5:09 pm to incidents involving buses near Chester train station and the nearby bus interchange.

As a precaution, a cordon was established, and multiple roads in the area were closed.

Chester train station was also evacuated while police and emergency services assessed the situation.

Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams were deployed to the scene alongside fire and ambulance crews to investigate the report.

Police later confirmed there was no threat to public safety.
