M56 all clear following earlier collision

The M56 has now cleared following an earlier collision.

National Highways has said “Traffic has now been released, and all lanes have re-opened on the M56 eastbound in Cheshire between J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn). Very long delays remain in the area but should now start to ease.

Update:

Motorists travelling eastbound in Cheshire are experiencing significant delays following the incident between junctions J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn).

The delay is reported to be approximately 50 minutes, causing a considerable backlog for drivers in the area.

Traffic Officers and emergency services are currently on the scene.

Traffic heading away from Deeside is queuing back towards the Costco turnoff.

Westbound traffic is queuing from Preston Brook.

A traffic report for the area states: “One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M56 Eastbound from J14 A5117 (Chester Services / Helsby) to J12 A557 (Runcorn).”
