Economy Minister Edwina Hart today called on people throughout Wales to support local enterprises on Small Business Saturday this weekend.
Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-political, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌

The day coincides with a Welsh Government campaign to celebrate the success of and promote small businesses in Wales, which includes a social media campaign using the hashtag #shoplocal to call on people to support small and local businesses in their communities. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌

As part of the campaign, Business Wales has also supported 29 micro and small businesses from across the country to take part in both Llandudno and Cardiff Christmas markets.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“Small Business Saturday is a chance to celebrate the work of entrepreneurs and small businesses, which are vital for building a strong economy, encouraging growth and creating jobs.

“Many of these businesses are based in small towns and villages all over Wales which are providing not just goods and services but also jobs. It is therefore vital we all get behind this campaign to encourage people to shop locally and to show our small businesses how much they mean to our communities.”

“The Marketplace Wales events which have been running alongside the campaign give these companies an opportunity to find new audiences and promote their products and services, and for others to see some of the many entrepreneurial success stories we have here in Wales.”

Deputy Minister for Culture Sport and Tourism Ken Skates visited the Cardiff Marketplace Wales event this week.
He said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Marketplace Wales event and was very impressed with the goods on offer from the small businesses who were exhibiting there. We have many excellent small businesses in communities all over Wales which are making some top quality products so I would encourage everybody in Wales to go out and support their small local businesses, particularly this weekend.“
