Increased matchday policing for Wrexham AFC v Oldham Althletic fixture
Increased patrols will be in effect across Wrexham city on Saturday as part of match-day policing arrangements.
The Vanarama National League fixture between Wrexham AFC and Oldham Athletic will take place on Saturday, April 1st.
Kick-off is at 3pm and a sell-out crowd is expected at The Racecourse, with around 10,000 fans in attendance.
North Wales Police say that “following the disorder in Oldham ahead of a fixture between both teams in October last year,” police resourcing has been escalated in Wrexham “to ensure public safety and prevent any further incidents.”
Superintendent Mark Williams, police commander for the event said: “We have been working closely with Greater Manchester Police to identify and prosecute those who were involved in the disorder in Oldham in the Autumn of last year.
“As a result, a number of suspects have been arrested, charged and banned from attending future matches, with further arrests planned.
“Wrexham AFC is extremely supportive of this action and work closely with us to ensure hooliganism has no place at The Racecourse.
“Officers on duty on Saturday will also be in possession of photographs of offenders yet to be identified.
“The policing of the match on Saturday will sadly have to reflect the risk posed by those intent on disorder and our plans are in place to ensure they will be dealt with swiftly and minimise the risk they pose to genuine football fans, the reputation of the club and the wider community.
“Good luck to Wrexham AFC in the final stages of the season, the positivity surrounding the club will no doubt override the negative behaviour of a few.”
Road closures will be in effect in areas around the football ground shortly before full-time to allow supporters to exit the stadium safely.
The closures will be in effect on Mold Road and will restrict vehicles access toward the ground.
When visiting the Racecourse Ground, please adhere to road markings and cones, and park responsibly and with respect to the Club’s neighbours
