A Flintshire campsite nestled in ancient woodland has been named one of the best small camping spots in the UK.

Tree Tops and Train Tracks, located in a secluded valley in the Clwydian Range near Mold, was crowned runner-up for the UK’s Best Small Campsite in the 2025 Campsites.co.uk Camping and Glamping Awards.

Chosen from more than 3,300 sites nationwide, the off-grid retreat has been praised by guests for its peaceful setting, creativity, and attention to detail.

The site spans 18 acres of woodland filled with wildlife and wildflowers, offering just six non-electric grass tent pitches, two elevated “ready tents” suspended among the trees, and a single glamping cabin for a more comfortable stay.

Just ten minutes from Mold and around 15 minutes from the River Dee estuary, the site combines back-to-nature camping with easy access to local amenities.

The woodland pitches vary in size and accommodate between three and six guests, while the unique treetop tents, made by Tentsile, offer visitors the chance to sleep among the canopy.

Tree Tops and Train Tracks currently holds a 4.97-star rating on Campsites.co.uk, with 100% of reviewers saying they would recommend the site.

Comments include: “This campsite felt like a magical haven tucked beneath beautiful woodland!” and “One of the best campsites we have ever been to!”

The 2025 Campsites.co.uk awards celebrate the UK’s most outstanding camping and glamping destinations across a range of categories, recognising those that go above and beyond for their guests.

Founder of Campsites.co.uk, Martin Smith, said: “Our annual awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the UK’s best campsites, and this year’s standards feel higher than ever. Each of the winning sites stand out for the care they put into being consistently excellent.”

Other Welsh winners included Plassey Holiday Park in Wrexham, named Best Family Campsite, and Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park in Swansea, which won Best Coastal Campsite.
