Free junior angling sessions at Wepre Park this summer.

Connah’s Quay Angling Club are offering free fishing lessons to children over the summer holidays at Wepre Park.

The club say they have noticed a big decline in junior membership over the past few years.

Keen to get new junior members, the club has tasked itself with engaging with the youth in the community and get more youngsters involved the sport.

The Environment Agency who issue rod licences on behalf of Natural Resources Wales has also seen a large decline in the number of National Rod License being bought for juniors.

So much so, they will stop the need for those under the age of 16 from requiring a rod licence from 2017 in a bid to get more youngsters to take up fishing.

Connah’s Quay Angling Club received a donation of over 10 sets of tackle from the local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme which they now plan to put to good use with the free junior sessions.

The club ran two events last year, this summer holidays they will be running six events with free coaching sessions, and teaching the basics of fishing.

All tackle and bait will be provided free of charge the club says, and all children will receive a goody bag as well as prizes for various achievements!

Location: The “Rosie” Wepre Park, Connahs Quay

Time: 9.00am to 3.00pm

Monday 25th July, Monday 1st August, Monday 8th August, Monday 15th August and Monday 22nd August.

Booking is essential as spaces are limited to 10 spaces per day.

Children must be accompanied by an adult for each session.
