Snow and icy conditions have made pavements and access routes unsafe, prompting the closures to prioritise the safety of students and staff.

In a statement shared on social media, a spokesperson for Ysgol Treffynnon said:

“Due to adverse weather conditions, we have made the decision to close the school today, Thursday, 9th January, to prioritise the safety of students and staff. Please do not attempt to attend, as the site will remain closed. We will provide further updates after a site assessment on the morning of Friday, 10th January. Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe and warm!”

The closures come as a yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place for Flintshire, with conditions expected to cause travel disruption and safety risks throughout the morning.

The Met Office warning is active until 12pm today, as wintry showers and sub-zero temperatures combine to create treacherous conditions.

Residents are urged to take extra care when travelling and to monitor updates from local authorities and schools for further announcements.
