Flintshire County Council is recruiting new members for its Local Access Forum, with a deadline of 13 May for expressions of interest.

The forum advises the council on how to improve public access to the countryside for walking, riding and other open-air recreation.

It also covers public rights of way and the right to roam on open country and registered common land.

The council says it wants applications from people who manage the countryside, such as farmers, alongside those who use it regularly.

That includes walkers, horse riders, bikers and off-roaders.

Local Access Forums are a statutory requirement under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.

Every local authority in England and Wales must have one, and members are appointed to give independent advice on access issues.

The Flintshire forum meets four times a year, usually during the day.

Members are expected to attend every meeting.

The roles are unpaid, but travel expenses can be claimed.

Anyone interested can request further details from the council’s Public Rights of Way team at [email protected].

The deadline is 13 May.
