Flintshire Council invites public feedback on Shotton’s ‘Place Making’ plan
Flintshire County Council is encouraging local residents to participate in shaping the future of Shotton by attending drop-in sessions to review and provide feedback on the town’s draft Place Making Plan.
The sessions, part of a broader regeneration initiative funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, will be held at Rivertown Church, Shotton.
The draft Place Making Plan, developed from public input, data, and research, is now in its final stage.
The consultation aims to give residents the opportunity to review the draft plan, explore the key priorities identified, and comment on the proposed implementation strategies.
Public opinion will play a crucial role in determining support for the plan’s priorities before it is considered for adoption by the Council and its external partners.
Engagement and Drop-In Sessions
Local residents can attend drop-in feedback sessions on the following dates:
- Monday, 9 December 2024: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Wednesday, 11 December 2024: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Friday, 13 December 2024: 9:00 am – 11:00 am
The sessions will be held at Rivertown Church in Shotton, with the Council’s Regeneration team available on Monday and Friday for residents wishing to discuss the plan directly.
Feedback surveys will also be available during the church’s regular opening hours for those unable to attend at the specified times.
Developing the Plan
Work on the Shotton Place Making Plan began in 2023 as part of a larger initiative to develop similar plans for seven town centres over 18 months.
The initial phase of public consultation received more than 1,100 responses, gathered both online and in-person, offering valuable insights into how residents perceive Shotton.
According to the Council, the draft plan reflects these insights and outlines a long-term vision for the town.
It focuses on priorities to enhance Shotton’s overall “vibrancy and attractiveness”, while addressing the needs of people who live, work, and visit the area.
Collaboration and Vision
The Place Making Plan initiative is being led by Flintshire County Council’s Regeneration team, working in partnership with other council services and external organisations.
This effort aligns with the Welsh Government’s directive for all local authorities in Wales to create Place Making Plans to support future town centre regeneration.
These plans aim to establish a clear vision for each town, address local needs, and foster collaboration among stakeholders to deliver improvement projects.
Additionally, the plans are crucial for unlocking Welsh Government funding for future regeneration efforts.
Encouraging Participation
Flintshire County Council is calling on residents to take part in the consultation and share their views.
Public feedback will play a pivotal role in shaping the final version of the Shotton Place Making Plan, ensuring it aligns with the aspirations and priorities of the local community.
Residents seeking more information about the plan or drop-in sessions are encouraged to visit the Council’s website or contact the Regeneration team directly.
