Businesses and property owners across Flintshire can now apply for grants of up to £50,000 to improve town centre buildings.

Flintshire County Council has opened applications for its Town Centre Property Improvement Grant scheme, covering areas including Buckley, Connah’s Quay, Flint, Holywell, Mold, Queensferry, Saltney and Shotton.

The scheme, funded by the UK Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund, supports capital works such as shopfront upgrades, signage, structural repairs and energy efficiency improvements.

Grants will cover up to 70% of eligible costs, with applicants required to contribute at least 30%. Funding is paid after the approved work has been completed.

The programme is open to commercial property owners and tenants, including independent businesses, small and medium-sized enterprises, charities and social enterprises. Applicants must have at least three years remaining on their lease.

Eligible improvements include external works such as windows, doors, roofing, lighting and stonework, as well as some internal works where part of a wider refurbishment or change of use.

Applications will be assessed through a two-stage process, starting with an expression of interest. Successful applicants will then be invited to submit a full proposal to the council’s regeneration panel.

David Fitzsimon, Chief Officer for Place and Growth, said: “We are delighted to be able to deliver the Town Centre Property Improvement Grant Scheme across town centres in Flintshire with Pride In Place Impact Funds from April 2026.

“Over the last three years, 43 properties have been improved and it is evident there is strong demand for the 2026 scheme, with enquiries already coming in from a number of businesses.

“We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with owners and tenants of commercial premises to improve their properties and support the sustainability and growth of their businesses and positively contributing to the vitality of our town centres.”

The council said its regeneration team is available to provide advice and support to applicants before they submit proposals.
