A Flintshire-based Advanced Paramedic Practitioner was a special guest at a prestigious event celebrating inspirational women.

Ema Geddes, based in Dobshill, attended the Women of the Year Lunch and Awards in London, which celebrated the achievements of 450 specially chosen women from across the UK and around the world who act as a role model for others across the whole spectrum of commerce, industry and service provision.

Doing remarkable work and making a difference to others – from serving society to saving lives, breaking glass ceilings and building communities – Women of the Year recognises women whose exceptional efforts today are paving the way for the women of tomorrow.

Ema, who has worked for the Trust for 18 years, and as a Paramedic for 13 years, was invited to attend for being an inspirational woman in the emergency services community.

The mother-of-two, originally from the Llŷn Peninsula, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I had an email out of the blue in July inviting me to attend.

“It was a much bigger event than I had anticipated and was just incredible to be surrounded by such inspirational, powerful and determined women who have achieved incredible things.

“The whole experience blew me away.

“I’ve never been to a star-studded red-carpet event before.

“It was great to meet other guests including Penny Morduant, Emma Bunton, Tanni Grey-Thompson, Rachel Riley and Lady Brenda Hale, who was the first female president of the UK’s supreme court.

“I was the only representative from the UK ambulance service, and I wore my platinum Jubilee medal with great pride.

“It was wonderful to celebrate together in what was an uplifting, inspiring and moving day.”
