Fire risk prompts recall of Anker power banks sold since 2023

Anker has issued a voluntary recall of three power bank models after discovering a potential fire risk linked to overheating lithium-ion batteries.

The affected models are the Anker Zolo Power Bank A1681 and A1689, and the Anker Power Bank A1647, manufactured between September 2023 and February 2025.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards warns the products present a medium risk of fire, as the batteries can overheat during use, potentially causing smoking, melting, or fire.

Anker said: “Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several Anker power bank models. We are working with regulatory authorities worldwide to ensure the recall is managed safely and efficiently.”

Users are advised to stop using the recalled power banks immediately. To check if your device is affected, verify the model number located on the bottom or side of the power bank. Serial numbers can be confirmed through Anker’s online recall form at www.anker.com/uk/rc2506-form.

Anker advises against disposing of recalled batteries in household or general recycling bins, recommending instead certified recycling facilities. Details on safe disposal can be found via the Environmental Protection Agency website.

Consumers who confirm their device is part of the recall can request a replacement, refund, or gift card by submitting proof of purchase and photos through the recall process.

The recall follows Anker’s enhanced quality checks earlier this year that identified possible manufacturing issues with battery cells from a single supplier.
