Eleven talented young artists from across Alyn and Deeside were honoured at a festive prizegiving ceremony, where Diana Kushnir, a pupil at Ewloe Green Community Primary School, was announced as the overall winner of the constituency’s annual Christmas card competition.

Diana’s design, a striking depiction of a local snow scene, will serve as an e-card for Mark Tami MP and Jack Sargeant MS this holiday season.

It will be sent to prominent figures, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer and First Minister Eluned Morgan, as well as to residents throughout the constituency.

The festive event, hosted by Toyota Manufacturing at Deeside Industrial Park, celebrated winners from 11 schools, who were presented with prizes by Mr Tami and Mr Sargeant. Notable sponsors, including Toyota UK, Edwards Homes, Airbus, and Chester Zoo, supported the initiative, enabling organisers to provide meaningful rewards to the participants.

“It was very difficult to choose a winner from the work of such talented young artists,” said Mark Tami MP. “We are very happy with Diana’s creative design and will be proud to send it out to Keir Starmer, Eluned Morgan and our friends across the constituency this festive season.”

Jack Sargeant MS echoed his enthusiasm, adding, “We’re grateful to pupils of the 11 schools who entered for taking part, and we hope they enjoyed this morning’s prizegiving. The standard really was incredibly high again this year.”

The winners included Azalea Morris (Mountain Lane Community Primary School, Buckley), Daisy-Lea Challinor-Hughes (Ysgol Bryn Deva, Connah’s Quay), and Jedidiah Silverson (St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, Saltney), among others from Shotton, Treuddyn, and Connah’s Quay.

This year’s competition aligned with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 by adopting an eco-friendly approach. Diana’s design was produced as an e-card to avoid the environmental costs of traditional paper cards, reducing waste and carbon emissions.

The initiative has become a cherished tradition for Alyn and Deeside, celebrating local creativity while encouraging sustainable practices during the festive season.
