Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant has launched a festive fundraising drive to collect cash for charity.

Carl wants people to share festive photos of themselves on social media and make a donation to Welsh Women’s Aid – and has set the ball rolling by tweeting a Christmas-themed picture of his own.

He said: “We’ve done the ice bucket challenge and now I want us to do the #elfie – or festive selfie – campaign.

“I’ve set up a JustGiving page where people can make donations to the cause and I will call at the Welsh Women’s Aid offices on December 19 to wish them a Merry Christmas and thank them for supporting the families who find themselves in safe refuge over the festive period.

“I set an initial target of £200, but it looks like we’ll reach that with no problem, as we are already up to £165.

“I’d like as many people as possible to join in, tweet their pictures and make a donation if they can – however small – as it will help make a real difference to the women and children who will have to flee domestic violence this Christmas.”
