Elfed students lead Buckley Remembrance Day tribute

Students at Elfed High School have led a moving community tribute on Remembrance Day, unveiling a large-scale art installation made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.
The piece, created over several weeks, symbolises reflection, peace, and hope for the future. It formed the centrepiece of the school’s annual Remembrance service held today.
Throughout the week, students attended special assemblies where staff shared personal family stories linked to those who have served in the armed forces.
At 11am, the whole school joined together for a two-minute silence to honour those who lost their lives in conflict.

Representatives from the armed forces, air cadets, scouts, explorer scouts, and the student leadership team were joined by staff, pupils, and community members, including students from Elfed’s partner primary schools, at the Hawkesbury Memorial.
Their attendance reflected the strong intergenerational connection that continues to define Buckley’s Remembrance traditions.
During the ceremony, Year 11 student Annabelle Jeffrey gave a reading that offered a moment of stillness and reflection for all those present.
After the service, guests returned to Elfed High School for refreshments and musical performances from students. Visitors also viewed the recycled-bottle artwork, which drew warm praise from attendees.

Staff members Mrs Fish, Mrs Bennet, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Blackwell, Mr Farrimond and Mrs Roberts were thanked for their creativity and commitment in preparing for the event.
The school said it was proud of its students for demonstrating compassion, respect and community spirit, ensuring that Remembrance Day was both meaningful and inclusive.
