Elfed High School hosts moving Remembrance Day tribute with ‘Poppy Flyover’
Elfed High School in Buckley has honoured fallen heroes with a heartfelt Remembrance Day service held in the school’s garden.
The event, titled ‘Elfed Remembers,’ brought together over 200 pupils and staff in a moving display of gratitude and respect.
A highlight of the day was the ‘Poppy Flyover,’ where students formed a giant human poppy, beautifully captured in a stunning aerial video filmed by a drone.
The symbolic tribute was part of a carefully planned ceremony that transformed the school garden into a reflective space, showcasing the school’s commitment to remembrance.
The event was the culmination of weeks of preparation, with pupils collaborating to create a meaningful and memorable tribute.
Special thanks were extended to Mrs. G. Smith, Mrs. J. Bennett, and Mrs. K. Fish for their dedication to the event.
Mayor of Buckley, Councillor Emma Preece, praised the school’s efforts, emphasising the importance of instilling the value of remembrance in younger generations.
Councillor Preece said: “It was fantastic to see the schoolchildren involved in the Armistice Day ceremony at Hawkesbury War Memorial alongside so many members of the community. I had the privilege of visiting the garden that pupils and staff from Elfed High School have created. Their hard work and commitment have transformed the space into a living tribute.”
Councillor Preece added:
“It is a testament to the enduring spirit of remembrance that our pupils have cultivated, ensuring that we never forget the sacrifices made for our freedom.”
