Deeside residents warned over bogus Scottish Power cold caller

Residents of Deeside have been put on alert following reports of an individual falsely claiming to be a representative of Scottish Power.

The man has been knocking on doors claiming he is conducting in-house surveys.

Police and Scottish Power, urging the public to exercise caution and verify the identity of anyone claiming to work for utility companies.

According to descriptions provided by concerned citizens, the man is approximately 6ft in height, easily identifiable by his hi-vis jacket, red lanyard, and clipboard.

North Flintshire Police said in a post on social media:

“We have received reports of a man knocking on doors in Deeside, stating he works for Scottish Power and needing to carry out a survey from inside the house.”

“After a resident made some enquiries with the energy firm, it was confirmed nobody was out working for them in the area at the time.”

“The man approaching residents’ homes is described to have been around 6ft in height, wearing a hi-vis jacket and a red lanyard, with a clipboard in his arm.”

“If someone knocks at your front door claiming to be from a company, first check their ID. If you’re not happy, don’t let them in.”

“Never call the phone number on their ID card to check them out. Ask them to wait outside, shut the door and find the company number on the internet. If they’re genuine, they’ll understand.”
