Twenty-eight Year 10 students from Connah’s Quay High School have completed a two-day engineering work experience programme at Toyota Engine Plant Deeside.

The pupils took part in Toyota’s TWEX scheme, which gives secondary school students access to the manufacturing site to work on problem-solving, team and leadership tasks.

All 28 students were awarded gold TWEX badges on completion.

Chris Jennings, of Connah’s Quay High School, said: “This was an exciting and productive opportunity allowing our learners to extend their engineering skills and knowledge. Myself & Mrs Chloe Thorpe along with Connah’s Quay High School would like to thank Toyota Deeside Engine Plant for providing this learning experience. The 28 learners all thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity and proudly displayed their badges on their return to school.”

Toyota Engine Plant Deeside is on Zone 3 of Deeside Industrial Park and employs around 600 people.

The plant produced 244,463 hybrid and petrol engines in 2024, according to Toyota’s published figures, for cars built in Derbyshire, Turkey and South Africa.

TWEX is a standing programme run by Toyota for school students at the Deeside site.
