A campaign to keep discounted bus rates has been launched today by Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant.

The aim of the campaign is to persuade Arriva Buses to continue offering a £1 rate for journeys on the 10, 11 and 12 routes between Deeside and Chester – a special offer which ran throughout December and January which has now been stopped.

Mr Sargeant said:

“The 10, 11 and 12 routes are extremely well-used and are very popular with many of my constituents.  Several of them have contacted me since the £1 fare offer ended and have told me they’re struggling to afford the full price fare, which is well over £3.

“I have contacted Arriva, who have advised me they are keeping the £10 weekly ticket offer in place, which is great news, but it would be even better if they could keep both offers in place.

“I will be writing to Arriva Buses to enquire about the possibility of reinstating these fares in Deeside, where many people are struggling with household costs.

“In the meantime, any of my constituents who would like to see the £1 made permanent can send a letter of support to my office, which I will pass on to Arriva.

Letters should be sent to Carl Sargeant AM at 70 High Street, Connah’s Quay, Deeside, Flintshire, CH5 4DD.
