The Welsh Government’s historic environment service, Cadw, will be hosting an array of fun family events taking place at many of its historic sites across North Wales this Easter bank holiday weekend (25 – 28 March 2016).

From Easter egg hunts at Cistercian abbeys to knight combat displays at medieval castles, there are over 20 exciting events taking place at Cadw sites across Wales, offering entertainment for the whole family.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be at Flint Castle, marking the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death on Easter weekend (27-28 March), with an exciting ‘top secret’ two-day dramatic event planned in partnership with Flintshire County Council, designed to celebrate the use of this impressive site in the Bard’s iconic play, Richard ll.

On Easter Sunday itself (27 March), families can hop along to a number of Cadw’s impressive monuments to take part in Easter egg hunts and trails, with chocolate prizes on offer for younger visitors.

Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said:

“Cadw’s spectacular monuments will be open to all across the Easter weekend providing maximum opportunity for people to use the bank holiday weekend to discover the best of Wales during the 2016 Year of Adventure.

“With many of the sites offering a variety of lively events, including on Easter Sunday itself, families will be able to engage with their heritage in a fun and interactive way. We can be sure our historic monuments will live up to the expectations of adventure seekers heading to Wales this year.

“Additionally, from the Easter holidays onwards Cadw is extending its concessions offer to include serving and retired armed forces personnel, who will enjoy a 30% discount on admissions to all Cadw sites from now on.”
