Buckley and Connah’s Quay Heritage Open Day today

Clwyd and Powys Archaeological Trust in partnership with the Buckley Society and the Quay Watermen’s Association are holding a Heritage Open Day on Saturday 19th November.
The event will celebrate the historic industrial and cultural links between the communities located between Buckley Mountain and the River Dee.
The railway, linking Buckley to Connah’s Quay opened in 1862 and operated for over 100 years, transporting millions of tons of coal, bricks and clay goods from Buckley to the port of Connah’s Quay for export.
For many decades this line made a huge contribution to the success enjoyed by the clay and coal industries along its route.
At the Heritage day images and memories from the past will help to discover forgotten stories and will help current generations to better understanding the places where they live.
There will be something for all ages, with handling collections, slide shows, children’s activities and displays by Clwyd and Powys Archaeology Trust, Buckley Society, Quay Watermen’s Association and Deeside and District Historical Society.
There’s also an opportunity to find out about the recent excavations at the site of Brookhill Pottery in Buckley and, weather permitting, the Quay Watermen will be running short boat trips.
Year 6 pupils at Ysgol Bryn Deva, who have visited the docks and have been learning about the maritime heritage of their local area, are producing imaginative displays with poetry and art, inspired by the old photos of the brickworks, railway and docks.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”41773″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow_3d”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
