Bidston to Wrexham trains cancelled after Shotton bridge hit
Trains between Wrexham Central and Bidston were cancelled in both directions this afternoon after a lorry hit a railway bridge at Shotton station.
Transport for Wales said the line could not be used until it had been inspected.
Passengers faced delays of up to 60 minutes on services that did run.
The operator said it expected the incident to last until 2.30pm, with disruption to services continuing until 16:00.
Replacement buses were arranged between Bidston and Wrexham Central at no extra cost, run by Keane’s Coaches.
The first was due at about 1.40pm, covering the 1pm from Wrexham Central to Bidston, the 1.21pm and 2.06pm from Bidston, and the 2.28pm from Wrexham Central.
Transport for Wales warned that the buses would take longer than the train.
Merseyrail agreed to carry Transport for Wales passengers holding valid tickets between Liverpool Lime Street and Chester at no extra cost until 5pm.
Anyone using pay as you go was told to tap out if they abandoned their journey or switched to another service.
Passengers who arrived at their destination more than 15 minutes later than scheduled can claim compensation through Delay Repay on the Transport for Wales website.
