Another yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for Flintshire and parts of Wales, with icy conditions expected to develop during the early hours of Friday morning.
The Met Office has warned that patchy rain, sleet, and hill snow falling on frozen ground could create hazardous conditions for both pedestrians and motorists.
The warning is valid from 3 am to 11 am on Friday, with untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths likely to become treacherous.
While any snow accumulation is expected to be limited to higher elevations above 150 metres, icy patches could still affect low-lying areas, increasing the risk of slips, falls, and travel disruption.
What to Expect in Flintshire
Residents are being advised to prepare for:
- Icy surfaces: Untreated areas could become slippery, especially during the morning rush.
- Slips and falls: Pedestrians should exercise caution to avoid injuries.
- Travel delays: Motorists and public transport users could face disruptions.
The cold weather is set to persist, with temperatures in Flintshire forecast to drop to around -4°C on Thursday night. Widespread frost and icy conditions are expected to continue into Friday morning.
RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson advised caution, particularly on rural roads where black ice can form. She said, “We urge drivers to remain vigilant of the risks posed by ice and snow. Sticking to major roads that are more likely to have been gritted is strongly recommended.”
Milder Weather on the Horizon
While Friday morning’s icy conditions may cause disruption, a change to milder weather is expected through the weekend.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: “On Sunday and through Monday, south-westerly winds will bring some rain and much milder temperatures across northern parts of the UK. With milder temperatures and rain moving in, a rapid thaw of lying snow could cause a few issues.
“Further south, it will remain colder and dry for longer, and here freezing fog could cause some problems on Saturday. Looking further ahead, high pressure will bring more settled conditions to most of the UK through next week. Occasional fronts will glance the northwest of Scotland, bringing rain at times and breezier conditions, but it will remain mild.”
