A55 near Chester reopens following serious collision

Update 12:50pm: The road has reopened 

Update 11.30am: Latest traffic report states the A55 is closed both ways from J12 M53 J12 (Chester) to J39 A41 (Sainsbury’s / Boughton Heath Roundabout).

Earlier report: The A55 near Chester is closed southbound – heading towards North Wales – from the M53 J12 (A56) Hoole Island due to a serious collision.

The incident has happened between the A51 Vicars Cross (J40) and the A41 (J39) .

Just after 6am this morning North West Motorway Police tweeted: 

“Multiple requests for Police and Ambulance – Report of an RTC A55, Chester Southerly By Pass Pedestrian V Car – Police and ambulance have just arrived on scene.”

Highways England has said a diversion is in place:

Exit the M53 at J12 and at the roundabout take the third exit on to the A56 westbound.

At the roundabout with the A41 take the first exit and follow the A41 southbound. Continue on the A41 to the roundabout with the A5115 and take the second exit to rejoin the A55 southbound at J39.

Latest traffic report: “Road closed due to serious accident on A55 Westbound from J12 M53 J12 (Chester) to J40 A51 Tarvin Road (Vicars Cross Interchange).

The closure has been shortened and the entry slip from J12 (Hoole Village) has also now been closed.”
