A man has died and an 80-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after a crash on the A55.

A man has died and an 80-year-old woman had to be airlifted to hospital after a crash which closed the A55 for several hours.  ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

A 46-year-old man from Holywell was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Officers from Cheshire Roads Policing team are appealing for information following a fatal collision, it happened on the A55 westbound carriageway between junction 38, Post House roundabout and junction 36A at Broughton at approximately 11.30 on Friday 4 September. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

The incident involved three vehicles, a white DAF HGV, a white ford transit van and a beige Citroen Picasso. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Following the collision an 80-year-old-woman was airlifted to hospital and a man was pronounced dead at the scene. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

As a result of the collision the A55 was closed westbound from the A483, Posthouse Roundabout, which resulted in major delays in the local area. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Inspector Liz Cunningham said: ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

“We are looking to appeal to anyone who was in the local area at the time of the incident and believes that they may be able to help with our investigation. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

“I am particularly interested in speaking to anyone who might have seen a broken down Citroen Xsara and a white recovery vehicle on the hard shoulder around the time of the collision. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 297 of 4/9/2015.” ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​
