Jack Sargeant MS has presented a plan of action to Welsh Government and Flintshire Council aimed at stopping flooding in Sandycroft, Pentre, Mancot and Broughton.

The Welsh Parliament member for Alyn and Deeside has created the 10 page report with residents in local areas impacted by recent flooding.

Many of the residents have had their homes ruined by flood water and are desperate to get ongoing issues addressed.

The report contains a number recommendations drawn up by Jack and residents, they include:

An immediate bid from Flintshire Council to Welsh Government for funding to carry out improvement is required.

Increase drainage capacity and redirection of flow in impacted areas.

Emergency pump to be made available and all ‘at risk’ households to be provided with adequate flood defence barriers.

New development to only take place when new and adequate infrastructure is in place.

Specific wellbeing and mental health support offered to all residents impacted by flooding.

Jack Said: “This report is about getting this issue sorted, I have presented it to both Welsh Government and Flintshire Council because we need them to work together on this.  If there are problems, I am here to help iron them out.”

“I am pleased that the Minister has confirmed funding is available because we need to move as quickly as possible to sort the drains and clear the ditches.”

Kelly Hollands, a resident impacted by the flooding has spoken opening about her experience: “Me, my husband and 3 children moved into our forever home 5 years ago.”

“We can no longer think of this as our forever home. This is due to the severe flooding we experience in Hamilton Avenue, twice in only 18 months my home has been only centimetres away from being ruined.”

“It’s extremely frustrating & upsetting because this flooding is unnecessary and avoidable if action was taken to address the drainage issues. We know it’s only a matter of time before many more homes are ruined including my own and we can’t stay here waiting for it to happen. ”

“It would put a lot of minds at ease if this was sorted out once and for all.”

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami added: “I’m grateful to my colleague Jack Sargeant for putting together this report. There needs to be prompt action to improve drainage capacity in Sandycroft and this report is a good basis to work from.”

“A number of meetings are taking place to ensure these communities are not hit again by preventable flooding and I welcome the effort from Flintshire Council, Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Water to make this happen.”

“Jack Sargeant and I are hosting public meeting on 26th February, if any Sandycroft residents wish to attend then please email me at [email protected] for the link to join.”
