North West Motorway Police have warned drivers to expect delays on the road network near Cheshire Oaks ‘designer outlet.’

Police say there is heavy traffic and delays on the M53 Northbound and congestion of the M56 Westbound, they advise drivers to allow extra time for journeys today.

Black Friday is a name for the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, it is regarded as the beginning of America’s Christmas shopping season and is now the busiest shopping day of the year in the US.

The phenomenon, like most things from the US spread to the UK as retailers look to boost sales in the run up to Christmas.

It has prompted TV news crews across the UK to station themselves in the doorways of major supermarkets in hope of filming fists fights between shoppers scrapping over the last cut price 58 inch flat screen television.

Historically ‘Black Friday’ causes absolute havoc on the roads surrounding major shopping destinations as shoppers hunt for a bargain or two

Bus company Stagecoach has already warned of delays to its services operating close to the retail outlet. It says:

“All our X8 services are currently running approx 20mins late due to heavy traffic around Cheshire Oaks sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you”

Latest traffic reports fore the area state:

“Queueing traffic on M53 Northbound at J10 A5117 (Little Stanney). Congestion to M56 J15 (M53 interchange).

Very slow traffic on B5132 Kinsey Road both ways at Cheshire Oaks Way (Cheshire Oaks). Likely due to people heading to Cheshire Oaks shopping centre.”
